Pacific Crest Trail ↟ We are officially DONE with the 700-mile desert section! Woohoo!! I am excited for shade and not having to worry about water and seeing more of the color GREEN! 🌲 • 📍 Tübatulabal and Southern Paiute territory
Pacific Crest Trail ↟ We’re almost done with the desert section of the #PCT! In a few days we’ll make it to Kennedy Meadows - wooohoooo! Now, what to do about the +300% snowpack on trail and like, the crazy river crossings we’re bound to face within the next couple of weeks? 🤔 Tuna and I are considering a “skip” north to Sierra City and continuing our journey to the Canadian border before Washington is on fire... because, let’s face it, Washington got less than an average amount of snow this winter and the last few years it’s been smoky late summer. If we do that, we’d want to hop back to the Sierras in September and finish up the Trail...........Y’all, a thru-hike is such a mental game when you can no longer walk a continuous footpath because of outside conditions. Pacific Crest Trail ↟ Hiked 23.9 miles | 541.5/2650 We left the (in)famous Hiker Town at 3am after an okay “night” of rest in a random western-themed cabin. Not quite sure what the deal is with that place... Our intention was to hike the LA aqueduct section before the sun baked us to a crisp. That’s a 24-mile dry stretch without much shade. It started out fun, hiking via headlamps, alone on the Trail, and looking at the stars above. The sunrise was nice, too, but then it proceeded to heat up. By noon, I felt like I was about to puke. Our last mile into camp was one of the toughest miles I’ve experienced on the #PCT. Usually a mile is nothing, but oh my, this one was something! My skin felt hot yet clammy and I had to snuggle by a bush to get a moment of “shade.” However, camp was an oasis. By 1pm we were lying on our sleeping pads under a tree’s canopy, or soaking our feet in the cool creek. Made the long trip to Florida, not for a vacation but to see family. It’s been a while since I was there in the humid, summer heat. While an overall stressful trip, there were moments of joy with loved ones and the flora and fauna. And of course, accidentally stumbling upon the southern terminus of the Florida Trail! Life’s complicated, y’all. How can a place I feel so uncomfortable in also hold a piece of my heart? We’re now on a train headed back to the PCT.
Pacific Crest Trail ↟ Update: Tuna and I are off Trail until next week (to be continued...). In fact, we’re across the country in Florida. This side trip, although unexpected, is where we need to be right now to support family. #pct2019 • 📍 Fernandeño Tataviam territory
